Anastagia Carter, Georgia elementary school principal is facing multiple charges of child cruelty and false imprisonment, as reported by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Why was Anastagia Carter arrested?
The accused, Anastagia Carter, 51, was charged with two counts of first-degree cruelty to a child, two counts of third-degree cruelty to a child, two counts of false imprisonment, and two counts of simple battery.
These charges were a result of incidents at Indian Creek Elementary School, where Carter worked as a principal.
According to a press release by the GBI, the Coffee County Board of Education contacted them after receiving information about an incident between Carter and a student.
During a preliminary investigation, the GBI discovered a second incident involving Carter and subsequently took her into custody with the help of the Carter County Sheriff’s Office.
The school district immediately responded to the incident by posting a statement on its Facebook page. The statement read, “The Coffee County School System has been notified of allegations concerning the principal at Indian Creek Elementary School. When this matter first came to the attention of the school system, a report was immediately made to the Department of Family and Children Services and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The principal was immediately placed on administrative leave.”
At this point, the details surrounding the incidents are unclear, and the investigation is still ongoing. However, once the investigation is complete, the GBI will hand it over to the Waycross Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
