Michael Smyth is an Australian journalist and broadcaster based in Adelaide, South Australia. Almost twelve years were spent by Smyth working for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in the Adelaide newsroom as a reporter and newsreader.

During that time, he caught up on his reading by going through the 7PM TV News for South Australia. In addition to that, he worked as a reporter and producer for the weekly ABC TV local current affairs show Stateline,

which has since been cancelled, and he presented programs on 891 ABC Adelaide on occasion. In 2005, he was named the Best TV Broadcaster by the South African Media Award.
