On February 24, 2021, the Murdaugh family name made headlines once again when the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) announced that they were investigating the death of Mallory Beach as a homicide.

Beach, a 19-year-old college student, died in a boating accident on February 24, 2019, and her death has been the subject of intense speculation and scrutiny ever since.

Who is Mallory Beach?

Mallory Beach was a 19-year-old college student from Hampton County, South Carolina. She was an avid cheerleader and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

On February 23, 2019, she and a group of friends went to a party on Parris Island, a military base in Beaufort County, South Carolina. The group left the party late that night and got into a boat piloted by Paul Murdaugh, the son of prominent South Carolina lawyer Alex Murdaugh.

According to witnesses, Paul Murdaugh was intoxicated and driving the boat at a high speed when it crashed into a bridge piling on Archers Creek. The impact of the crash threw Mallory Beach and several other passengers from the boat. Mallory’s body was found a week later in a marshy area of Archer’s Creek, about 6 miles away from the crash site.

Some have alleged that she may have been struck by the boat’s propeller or hit her head during the crash, but the exact cause of her injuries remains unclear.
