Tim Sale is an Eisner Award-winning American comics artist who was born on May 1, 1956, in Ithaca, New York.

His father, Roger Sale, was a literary critic and author in the United States, and his mother, Dorothy Young Sale, had a somewhat obscure career. Sale was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, where he and his family moved when he was six years old.
He attended the University of Washington for two years before moving to New York City to study at the School of Visual Arts (SVA). Before returning to Seattle and graduating from SVA, he studied at artist John Buscema’s comics workshop.
In 1983, he began drawing for the MythAdventures series. His work on Robert Lynn Asprin’s shared world fantasy series Thieves’ World, which premiered in 1978, was well-known.
